Clausing Colchester 13 36 Master Lathe ==> Coolant Care ==> 01 Oil Water Separator

UpUp

Since I installed a belt skimmer on my lathe, to remove tramp oil from flood coolant sump, I realized that the skimmer picks up oil very well, but also picks up perfectly good coolant. To finally separate coolant and oil, many places sell so called diverters, but I decided to make one myself. So I made one during my TIG class, out of a few 16 gauge steel pieces that I hijacked from productive TIG class use to the purpose of making a diverter.

How the Diverter Works

  1. Oils (tramp and coolant) enter from top of the left compartment
  2. Coolant sinks and passes under the middle wall
  3. Clean coolant returns to your sump from the right compartment
  4. Tramp oils Collects in left compartment

I tested it and found it to not leak. The last picture shows it installed, it is held by magnets.
