My compressor's pump is rated for 5 HP, but the motor on it was only 3 HP. The mismatch was partly compensated by the fact that the 3 HP motor had a "Baldor horsepower rating", but still, the motor would get too hot after running continuously. Since I came across a very similar 5 HP motor in a beat up Bullard pump that I bought for $50, I decided to swap the 3 HP motor for the 5 HP.
I replaced the 3 HP compressor Motor with a 5 HP motor, also of 184T frame, so replacement was easy, though it took about 1.5 hours. I was able to keep the existing pressure switch. I also kept the pulley.
