How I killed a chicken

The chicken in question needed killing because it was eating eggs. It was three year old, New Hampshire red (if I am not mistaken). It was always a little antisocial.

I used this Russian axe, sharpened with a Baldor grinder, cleaned the edge with a stone, took a wooden piece.

I held the chicken by the legs and tried to break its neck, but I am not sure if I succeeded, the chicken continued to breathe and at some point started making noises. At that point I beheaded it, it produced incredibly strong flapping, I tried to hold it close to the ground far from my feet. I almost did not get splattered with blood, a few drops ended up on my boots.

To pluck it, I scalded it in 150F water for 30 seconds, after which removing feathers was very easy. This is a very fat and very heavy chicken.

I used information from this link.
